I was raised to believe that service comes before self. Whether it is serving our families, our communities, or our country. I saw that service first-hand as my working class parents did everything they could to give me and my siblings better lives than they had. They worked multiple jobs - my dad even took on a role as my school janitor - because that's what they needed to do to serve their family. Their service to their family is what created my future opportunities.
When I graduated high school, I knew I wanted to take service to the next level. I enlisted in the army and began a 20-year career serving our country. In a world where there can be so much disagreement, I chose to give my life to protect the spirit of our nation - a spirit where even when we disagree, we can all be proud to call ourselves Americans.
When my time in the army came to an end, I went back to school and got my law degree. As an attorney, I built a business rooted in ethically and effectively representing clients. While I love this career, I continue to feel the pull of service. That's why I got involved in my hometown - Hudson, NH - and I joined the Rodgers Memorial Library Board of Trustees. A few years later, I was elected to the Hudson Board of Selectmen, where I continue to serve my community.
In those local roles, I saw how I could play a role in creating opportunities for my neighbors. The opportunity to have access to an evolving and integral resource that is our local library; the opportunity to be a voice for my neighbors as we strive to move Hudson in a positive direction. I saw if government is managed well, it can provide people the tools to live their fullest lives.
All of these experiences have been such valuable lessons on how I can give back, contributing to my community and my country. Each opportunity came with challenges, yet those challenges were outweighed by tremendous successes. But in 2023, I was presented with my greatest challenge when I was diagnosed with cancer.
As a Type 2 diabetic, I'm no stranger to health scares, but nothing could have prepared me for the battle that lay ahead. For a brief moment, I thought I would have to take a break and focus on my cancer and myself - a rarity for me. While there was much that could have kept me down, I was filled with inspiration when my community rallied around me and my husband. It was a long, hard fight. But it was also a reminder of the impact a supportive community can have to our success.
Now in recovery, I am eager to lend my voice, my experiences, and my passion to serving you as our next State Senator.
